Birger Øivind Meidell (1882–1958) was a Norwegian minister for social affairs in the NS government of Vidkun Quisling September 1940 - September 1941. After end of the War he was sentenced to forced labour but released on grounds of ill health. He took up a post at the Brankasse until his retirement.[1]
He planned in the 1930s a broadly worked out strategy for NS-command of Norwegian society. His high idea was to win over the workers for the NS and for national socialism. In part, these workers would be won over through active social politics, higher payment, safer and better working conditions. He also aimed to subordinate the labour unions to government policy. His progress was not helped by his obstinate and uncooperative personality..[1]
